Preview – Round 8
The final round of this year’s GB3 Championship takes place this weekend at the iconic Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit, where both Tymek Kucharczyk and Will Macintyre remain in the hunt for the drivers’ title. Headlining alongside the British GT Championship, it’s set to be a thrilling weekend of intense on-track action.
Tymek, with four victories this season, heads to Brands Hatch third in the standings, 36 points behind the leader and 52 points ahead of his Hitech team-mate, Will Macintyre. While neither driver enters the finale as the outright favourite, both are determined to give their all in pursuit of maximum points. Meanwhile, Gerrard Xie, fresh off another podium finish at Donington Park, is fighting to help close the seven-point gap to claim overall honours for Hitech in the Teams’ Championship.
“I’m feeling confident heading into the final round,” said Tymek. “Brands Hatch is a circuit I love, and with four wins under my belt this season, I’m ready to give it my all. I understand the challenge ahead, but I believe in the Hitech team and my own preparation. I want to thank all my fans back home in Poland for their incredible support – in addition to the many who have watched my races trackside throughout the year – I’ll be pushing hard for them this weekend.”
Our three drivers are facing a busy few days of testing, including runs on both the 2.4-mile Grand Prix circuit and the shorter 1.2-mile Indy layout on Friday. Brands Hatch, renowned for its sweeping corners – such as Paddock Hill, Hawthorns, Dingle Dell, and Clearways – is widely regarded as one of the UK’s most challenging and enjoyable circuits to race on. With overtaking opportunities at a premium, the additional preparation will be crucial for the all-important qualifying session on Saturday morning.
“Brands Hatch is such a fun circuit to drive,” added Will. “And qualifying is going to be very important to achieve a good starting position for the first two races. It’s where my focus is this weekend I’m aiming to finish on a high.”
“There’s still so much to play for in the Teams’ Championship, and we’re only seven points away from the top,” said Gerrard. “We’ve got the speed, and if we stay focused, we can finish the season on a strong note at Brands Hatch.”
Race one is scheduled to begin at 2:50pm on Saturday, followed by race two at 11:30am the following morning. The season’s final race, the reverse-grid encounter, will take place at 3:45pm on Sunday afternoon.
